Synthesis of some bimetallic trinuclear RuII-NiII-RuII complexes

Reactions of [Ni(PPh3)2L2]2+ L = 4-cyanopyridine, 1,4-dicyanobenzene, 1,4-dicyanopiperazone, 1,4-dicyano-trans-2butene (referred hereafter as CNPy, DCB, PPz and DCBT respectively) with [Ru(η5-C5H5)ClE2] {E2 = (PPh3)2, (AsPh3)2, Sb(Ph3)2 and dppm} have been carried out in presence of suitable anions like BF4-, BPh4-, PF6- and ClO4-, to obtain cationic bimetallic trinuclear complexes of the type [RuII-NiII-RuII]2+. The reaction products have been characterised by elemental analysis and IR, electronic, 1H, 13C and 31P NMR spectral studies. (author). 32 refs., 1 tab
