The Sr-90 atom charged in the etiopathogenesis of malignant hepatomas in sucklings (reality or incompetency ?)

The authors present a case considered as typical in which the radioactive pollution is accused by local mass media of affecting the state of population health on no objective basis. A baby, 1 year old, is hospitalized and operated of malignant hepatomas, assigning Sr-90 as the cause. After a second operation and occurrence of new cancer reactions the infant deceases. The authors undertook a thorough analysis of all the medical data and of the radioactive pollution levels of the environment. They established that cases of malignant hepatomas in infants (primary tumors), similar to that in question, do occur in Romania at a rate of 1.7 to 105 inhabitants (as compared to 4-6 to 105 inhabitants, in Eastern Europe). The level of Sr-90 in milk is 80.6 mBq/dm3 what is around the average value in the country. Other arguments are also given, all pleading for a case of cancer inscribed in the usual rate of occurrence in infants with no implication of Sr-90. The authors do appeal to an objective public information with no underestimates or overestimates of radiation hazard
