Current measurement of 35-70 MeV protons by means of thin copper foil activation

  • 1. Eidgenoessisches Inst. fuer Reaktorforschung, Wuerenlingen (Switzerland)

Description

The beam current utilized for radioisotope production, with a 72 MeV proton beam, was determined by the method of thin (0.08 g/cm2) copper foil activation due to the reaction 65Cu(p,pn)64Cu. Detailed error analysis was made. It might be possible to determine the proton current with an accuracy of 5-7% in the energy range of 38-70 MeV. The advantage of the experimental procedure and the evaluation over electrostatic method is that the integrated current can be measured 'in situ' in the target. (T.I.)
