The energy domain of highly excited compound states

Description

New approaches to study the excited compound states are presented. The information on the localization of levels in a specified energy region was obtained. For medium and heavy nuclei, lattice-like energy domains were looked for, in which levels are populated densely and thinly alternatively, with increasing energy. The whole energy region analyzed was divided into domains 1 and 2. The results of neutron resonance experiments on Sm-154, Er-166 and Er-168 were examined. Plots of the number of levels in domain 2 are presented. At 17.6 eV of the lattice constant (x), all the three cases showed the highest peak. The analysis of the many-level linked distances for these nuclei revealed the correlation distances of integral multiples of 17.6 eV. In case of Cd-112 and Cd-114, large deviation was observed at a lattice constant of 53.9 eV, while the distributuion of the many-level linked distances revealed the correlation at the integral multiples of 53.9 eV distance. The expectation values for random levels to obtain the deviation at any lattice constant were estimated. The probability to have the large localization of levels in the same domain is very small for different nuclei. The domain characteristics of Yb-173 and Hf-177 are also presented. (Kato, T.)
