ASQRAD: an evaluation software for radiological risk evaluation

Description
On the basis of available epidemiological data (essentially related to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki survivors study), several dose-effect models, using various risk projection hypothesis, are developed by institutions such as UNSCEAR, ICRP, BEIR and NRPB. In order to allow radiological risk evaluations based on these models, the ASQRAD software (Assessment System for the Quantification of RAdiation Detriment) has been jointly developed by the CEPN and NRPB, with the support from the European Commission. This software permits the evaluation of lethal and non lethal cancer risk together with hereditary effects risk, associated with the exposure of different populations. ASQRAD is an evaluation tool which may be used for radiological risk calculation training and for the evaluation - in terms of risk - of radiological protection policies efficiency. This paper presents the main characteristics of the ASQRAD software, such as the available dose- effects models, the proposed detriment measures, and the contents of the database used for risk calculations
