Relation between the ionization and excitation cross-sections for slow atom collisions

Description
Formulae were derived for the case of slow atom collisions. They describe ionization and excitation cross-sections with allowance for the effect of Coulomb level concentration on electron transitions in the vicinity of the point of initial state term occurrence in continuous spectrum. The relation between ionization and excitation cross-sections of atomic level and n number was revealed. Various methods of parameter determination necessary for σe(i) calculation using σi(e) are discussed. The effect of isotope structure of colliding atom pair on the value of ionization and excitation cross-section is studied. Experimental σi values were used to obtain as an example for K, H2 system the excitation cross-section of potassium tom ato the group of 7(s, p), 5(d, f, g) states forming one effective Coulomb level
