New clear route for nuclear power?

In its current review of nuclear power, the United Kingdom government has received evidence from over 200 organizations. The evidence submitted by one of these, the UK Centre for Economic and Environmental Development (CEED), is outlined. Considering environmental effects, UK CEED argued that although nuclear electricity generation has a very favorable emissions to our profile, alternative generation options should be assessed on the entire energy chain from fuel extraction to end use. This favours nuclear against coal, but not against natural gas. The Centre strongly supported the nuclear industry's argument that any EU-wide tax to address climate change should be wholly on carbon emissions. (Author)
