Changes in post-surgical clinical staging in patients who underwent radical cystectomy at Hospital Mexico between January 2014 and May 2018
Description
A comparative analysis between the histology of the transurethral resection of the bladder (TUR-V) with the surgical specimen of the root cystectomy was performed. Records of patients who underwent radical cystectomy at Hospital Mexico between January 2014 and May 2018 were analyzed retrospectively. Patients with initial histology of urothelial carcinoma in TUR-V biopsy were included. The surgical specimen from the cystectomy was compared to observe if there was any change between the clinical and pathological staging according to the tumour, node and metastasis (TNM) classification for bladder cancer. A variability comparable to world statistics between clinical and pathological staging was presented in cases of cystectomy for urothelial carcinoma in Costa Rica. Making an accurate clinical diagnosis in advanced bladder cancer has lacked a reliable method, despite advances in technology and the experience of support teams such as radiology and pathology. Cases of prostate cancer that are detected in the surgical specimen were observed with a much higher percentage than the worldwide intervals. The lack of an electronic file, the illegibility of the text and the difficulty in finding some volumes of previous files were found as limitations for data collection
