Graphites for the application in fusion equipments

Description
To simulate the heat-fluxes to the graphite and to study the resulting damage, laboratory tests were carried out using an electron beam (welding machine) with power densities and exposure times similar to those expected in the JET-machine. The exposed graphite tiles were analysed with respect to erosion and cracking behaviour using optical and scanning electron microscopy in addition to the conventional metallographic (ceramographic) methods. An attempt was made to correlate these results with the thermomechanical properties and the structural parameters of the different materials. (orig./MM)
