H+2/CH3OH and He+/CH3OH charge transfer reactions
Description
The dissociative charge transfers of CH3OH with H+2 and He+ ions at relative translational energies from 600 eV to 5000 eV are examined. The electron transfer reaction produces CH3OH+ ions in specified electronic states, and the probability of forming these states varies with the reactant-ion translational energy. All these electronic states fragment, except the ground state. In the He+/CH3OH system there is evidence that the 4a' state dissociates to CHO+, and that a non-doublet state of CH3OH+ exists at 24.58 +- 1.0 eV, which also fragments to CHO+. (orig.)
