Parametrial invasion by cervical cancer

Description
This paper reports on twenty-five patients with histologically proved cervical carcinoma. Images were obtained with plain and Gd-DTPA-enhanced T1-weighted (SE 500/20) and plain T2-weighted (SE 2,000/40-90) sequences. All patients underwent surgery. Plain and contrast-enhanced MR imaging findings were compared with pathologic findings. In detecting the presence or absence of parametrial invasion, nonenhanced MR imaging had higher accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity than GD-DTPA-enhanced MR imaging. In patients with cervical cancer, nonenhanced MR imaging seems to be more reliable than contrast-enhanced MR imaging demonstrating parametrial status
