Studies on performances of wedge Silicon Microstrip Detectors

Creators

Description

I report about a complete set of measurements performed on silicon detectors with a wedge shaped geometry and with different lattice orientations and resistivities. A sample of the sensors has been irradiated with a neutron fluences as to reproduce the damages expected in the innermost layer of the CMS tracker during 10 years of operation at LHC. The performances of detector modules consisting of two bonded sensors equipped with a prototype of the final version of CMS tracker readout chip have been studied in laboratory with a β source and at an MIP test beam at CERN. Measurements of signal-to-noise ratio on both irradiated and nonirradiated detectors obtained at the test beam are consistent with laboratory results. From the test beam data we have also determined the detector efficiencies and the probability of fake cluster reconstruction, which have a great importance for studies on global tracker performances
