Description

The definition and validation of a 2D transport calculation route for LWR absorber clusters, in UOX or MOX fuel bundles, based on the deterministic code APOLLO2 is described. This route is based on the following calculation scheme: heterogeneous Pij assembly calculation, rigorous heterogeneous/ homogeneous equivalence preserving every reaction rate, Sn-nodal 2D core calculation, with P1 anisotropic scattering modeling. The heterogeneous Pij assembly calculation of the absorber cluster is carried out for the cluster considered with three surrounding rows of fuel rods. This calculation scheme was checked against TRIPOLI4 reference continuous-energy Monte Carlo calculations. Differences of less than 2% in local power profile and of less than 1% in reactivity worth of the cluster were found. (author)
