Non-thermal continuum emissions associated with electron injections: remote plasmapause sounding

Description

This paper reports a new class of short lived continuum emissions measured by GEOS2 which appear to be converted at the plasmapause around local midnight from the strong electrostatic waves driven by substorm injected electrons up to a few keV in energy. The frequency-time structure of these emissions provides a measurement of the movement of the location of the plasmapause at the times of substorm injections. (author)
