Method of obtaining uranium

Description

Uranium extraction is based on processing acid leachates by sorption on anion exchangers and by nitrate elution during which the acid eluate is neutralized to pH 3.2 to 3.8. Following separation of the precipitate, part of the acid eluate containing nitrate ions is brought to the second stage of the sorption. At this stage the anion exchanger is enriched with uranium and with nitrate ions. The advantage of the method is the higher concentration of uranium in the eluate. The obtained uranium precipitates show better sedimentation and filtration properties. The described method may be used in processing uranium ores with a low uranium content. (J.B.)
