Attempt to observe induced capture of a neutron in the field of laser radiation
Description
We describe an experimental setup for observation of the change of the cross section for radiative capture of neutrons in the nucleus 139La produced by the electromagnetic field of laser radiation. In the field of a neodymium laser of power 105 W/cm2 we obtained for the change in the cross section the following result: Δsigma/sub γ/ = 0.25 +- 0.56 b. This is at least an order of magnitude smaller than the theoretical predicted value
