New horizons in nuclear physics - the amazing world of nuclei at high spin, isospin, and excitation energy

Investigation of atomic nuclei which are many-body quantum systems, is most rewarding, as this is the window to probe one of the most fundamental interactions in nature i.e. the nuclear force. The matter of fact is that the heart of all visible matter in the universe, are nuclei. At the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, Geneva, recently, in the collisions of very high energy proton beams, creating a mini Big Bang, the Higgs Boson was discovered in the huge debris of large number of photons and particles produced in the highly energetic collisions. The Higgs Boson provides a mechanism to assign mass to all the elementary particles. This finding has thrown open new questions not only in high-energy physics but also in nuclear physics. Research in nuclear physics is, therefore, intimately linked to our quest for the ultimate truth
