Transport description of intermediate processes in heavy ion collisions

Description

An extension of the diffusion model is proposed to explain intermediate processes and compound nucleus formation in heavy ion reactions. The model is based on the idea of the formation of a dinuclear molecular complex and its subsequent decay by fragmentation. This complex evolves through exchange of nucleon to different dinuclear configurations. At each stage there is a finite probability of fragmentation into outgoing channels through thermal penetration of the barrier. The doorway states that do not fragment relax into a compound nuclear configuration and appear in the fusion yield. The model has been successfully applied to the Si - C system
