Description
This paper presents a 1979 November Einstein Observatory x-ray image of the Sanduleak - 69 202 region in the large Magellanic Cloud. It provides a key identifying x-ray objects in the field. These imaging proportional counter (IPC) data yield an 0.2--4 keV x-ray luminosity upper limit for the pre-supernova star of < 9 x 1034 ergs s- 1. The image demonstrates that soft x-ray observations of SN 1987A will require ∼ 20 arcmin spatial resolution in order to distinguish the supernova from other sources of diffuse and point-like emission in the vicinity
