Carbon isotope enrichment by retention of isotopic excitation selectivity in VV ladder climbing collisions

  • 1. Naval Research Lab., Washington, DC (USA). Optical Sciences Div.

Description

Initial isotopic excitation selectivity in cw CO2 laser pumping of 12CH3F and 13CH3F is retained in upper vibrational states even after ladder climbing collisions. Reaction of these states with atomic bromine samples this non-equilibrium distribution and produces isotopically enriched product, CH2FBr, with projected excellent energy efficiency. (orig.)
