The mixed mode fatigue crack propagation behavior with the variation of thickness

  • 1. Korea Univ., Seoul (Korea, Republic of)

Description

The loading condition applied practical mechanical components or structures represents mixed mode condition. Hence, it is necessary to evaluate the fatigue crack behavior with various conditions under mixed mode loading. The fatigue test was executed by using the modified CTS(Compact Tension Shear) specimen and loading device. In this paper, the fatigue crack propagation behavior was investigated respectively on the thickness 2, 4, 6mm and we changed the loading application angle into 0 .deg., 30 .deg., 60 deg. to apply various loading mode. The propagation behavior with the variation of thickness under mixed mode loading condition was evaluated by using the effective stress intensity factor range. From above experimental results, we investigated the aspect of propagating mixed mode fatigue crack with the variation of thickness. we have concluded that the fatigue crack propagation rate increases with the thickness and decreases with mixed mode ratio
