Magnetic properties of high-temperature superconductors: hints and tests for unconventional superconductivity

Description
It is shown that d-wave superconductivity can lead to frustration in a multiply-connected superconducting system involving Josephson junctions. This frustration is responsible for various unusual magnetic properties in some high-temperature superconductors. Various test experiments for d-wave superconductivity are discussed, especially the direct observation of spontaneous currents due to frustration. Recent experiments finding fractional vortices in YBCO are interpreted as evidence for time-reversal breaking superconductivity. ((orig.))
