Some aspects of the interaction of radiation with matter

Description

Three lectures concerning about some aspects of the interaction of radiation with matter are given. The contents of these lectures are: a) survey of some new possibilities opened by lasers; b) Atoms in intense resonant or quasi resonant lase beams. Discussion of several theoretical approaches to resonance fluorescence. New experimental schemes being currently devised; c) simple physical pictures to describe radiative corrections, with application to the Lamb-shift and to the anomalous gyromagnetic factor of leptons. The atom in a photon vacuum. (L.C.)

Abstract (Portuguese)

Apresentam-se tres aulas relativas a alguns aspectos da interacao da radiacao com a materia. Os conteudos dessas aulas sao: a) Revisao de algumas possibilidades novas abertas por lasers; b) Atomos em feixes de laser ressonantes ou quasi-ressonantes intensos. Discussao de varias abordagens teoricas a fluorescencia ressonante. Novos esquemas experimentais em curso atualmente; c) Quadros fisicos simples para descrever correcoes radiativas, com aplicacoes ao deslocamento Lamb e ao fator giromagnetico anomalo de leptons. O atomo num vacuo de fotons. (L.C.)
