CAFCA-SICLE computer code: thermalhydraulic analysis of LMFBR steam generators

Description

The CAFCA-SICLE computer code has been built in order to analyse more precisely the thermalhydraulic behaviour of LMFBR steam generators (SG). It results from the coupling of CAFCA and SICLE (two computer codes usually run for other applications), and models the two-dimensional effects induced by the tube bundle geometry. This report firstly explains the basic principles of the coupling. Then it presents the numerical results obtained on two different applications: the first one, devoted to an experimental S.G. mock-up, gives a preliminary validation of the coupling; the second one is related to two straight tube SGs designed by Novatome for the French 1500 MW LMFBR project; the simulations are helpful to estimate the designs and the size of the components

Abstract (French)

Pour etudier la thermohydraulique fine des generateurs de vapeur des centrales a neutrons rapides, un moyen de simulation numerique capable de reproduire les effets bidimensionnels dans un faisceau a ete mis au point en couplant deux codes de calcul utilises pour d'autres applications: CAFCA et SICLE. Apres avoir decrit le principe du couplage entre ces deux codes, cette note presente deux applications: la premiere, realisee sur une maquette experimentale, a rendu l'outil de calcul operationnel; la seconde, concerne deux variantes d'appareils proposes par Novatome en solution alternative pour le projet RNR 1500; elle donne des elements d'appreciation sur la conception et les dimensionnements retenus
