Size distribution of trace elements determined by instrumental thermal neutron activation analysis

Atmospheric particulates have been studied for their trace element contents in Ankara atmosphere during fall and winter months (1976-1977). Using instrumental thermal neutron activation analysis, the observed trace elements were Na, K, Sc, Cr, Fe, Co, Zn, As, Se, Br, Rb, Sb, Cs, Ba, La, Ce, Eu, Hf, Hg and Th. Their concentrations and particle size distributions were determined for six months, namely for September, October, November, December, January and February. Mass-median diameters, mass-size functions of these elements were estimated and enrichment factors of them with respect to both the soil of Ankara and crustal abundances were found out to be maximum in January. The elements found in small particulates were toxic and enriched i in Ankara atmosphere. (author)
