Extended interim storage. Impact on the environmental impact assessment?
Description
The authorizations for storage of nuclear fuels granted in Germany are limited to 40 years -starting from storage of the first container. The central interim storage facilities Gorleben and Ahaus are subject to the § 6 AtG licenses until the years 2034 respectively 2036, the decentralize interim storage facilities at the NPP locations until the years thereafter. In view of the - in the absence of repositority availability - expected prolonged storage in Germany, the question arises as to whether, as partof the renewal of the storage permits, environmental impact assessment is required under the Environmental Impact Assessment Act (UVPG).
