Description
A novel counting technique for the selective detection of short-lived high energy emitters is described (8Li, 12B, 12N, 32Cl). The experimental approach for optimizing several important detector parameters (detector material, thickness, configuration) is discussed together with an evaluation of additional variables affecting detector efficiency and β/γ discrimination. Detectors were prepared using both Cerenkov converter and plastic scintillation materials. A 207Bi source was used for off-line testing. On line testing was done by looking for 8Li via 7Li(d,p)8Li (T: 850 ms, Esub(βmax) 13MeV) and 12B via 11B(d,p)12B (T: 20 ms, Esub(γmax)13 MeV). (T.I.)
