Liquid velocity and turbulence measurement in horizontal air-water bubbly flows using hot-film anemometer

Description
Hot-film anemometer was used to measure the velocity and turbulence of continuous liquid phase in horizontal air-water bubbly flows. A special data processing program was developed to identify the phases, and to remove the bursts, generated by the bubbles when passing through the measuring sensor, from the original data curve, so that usefully information on liquid could be extracted from the two-phase measurements. It was found that the liquid phase velocity and the turbulent intensity were about the same as that of single liquid phase flow at the lower part of the tube. However in the upper part of the tube, the liquid velocity suffers a sudden reduction and the introduction of air strongly has enhanced the turbulence level as characterized by the turbulent intensity with their maximum value near the r/R = 0.5 the upper wall of the tube.
