Design, development and quench testing of superconducting solenoid focusing magnets

Control Instrumentation Division (CnID) is involved in the design and development of superconducting solenoid focusing lens as a part of Indian Institute FERMILAB collaboration project. As per the beam dynamics requirement, superconducting solenoid focusing lens are used in low beta superconducting spoke Resonator cryomodule of Project -X Injector Experiment (PXIE). We are involved in the design and development of SSR2 SC Solenoid focusing lens, with a focusing strength of 5.0 T².m. In this paper first we discuss about a vertical liquid nitrogen cooled liquid helium test cryostat which is developed for quench characterization of SC solenoid focusing lens. Quench, magnetic testing and performance comparison of superconducting solenoid magnet, at liquid helium temperature (4.2K), developed using wet hand layup and vacuum impregnation is discussed.
