Impacts of Czech nuclear power plant life extension on the Dukovany LILW disposal facility capacity and the deep geological repository project
Description
The Dukovany site hosts, apart from the nuclear power plant, a disposal facility for operational low and intermediate-level wastes from the Dukovany as well as the Temelin NPPs, with a capacity corresponding to a minimum of 30 years of operation plus the waste created as a result of their decommissioning. Analysis shows that the capacity is sufficient for 40 and 60 years of the operation of the two NPPs, including the waste arising from future decommissioning. However, the Energy Concept of the Czech Republic assumes future commissioning of new NPPs, in which case the capacity of the Dukovany disposal facility will be exhausted by 2050 and the Czech Republic will have to look for an alternative solution to the disposal issue.
