Interaction of ruthenium dimethylsulfoxide complexes with HBr

  • 1. Moscovskaya Gosudarstvennaya Akademiya Tonkoj Khimicheskoj Tekhnologii im. Lomonosova, Moscow (Russian Federation)

Description

The behaviour of ruthenium (2) dimethylsulfoxide complexes-cis- and trans-[Ru)DMSO)4X2) and ruthenium (3)-[DMSO)2H][Ru(DMSO)2X4] (X=Cl, Br) was studied in concentrated HBr by absorption electron spectra technique. Interaction with HBr at room temperature causes deoxygenation of DMSO and formation of ruthenium dimethyl sulfoxide complexes and then substitution of intra spherical ligands with [RuBr2]3- formation. As this takes place, ruthenium (2) complexes are oxidized to ruthenium (3) complexes. At the same time the total transition to [RuBr7]3- at Cru>10-5 mol/l is not available. 20 refs
