Neutron diffractometer modification for residual stress measurement on steel

Description
Modification of neutron diffractometer (DN-1) at Materials Science Research Center (PPSM) for residual stress measurement had been done. By changing the take-off angle of monochromator (2θm), sample Goniometer, Position Sensitive Detector (PSD) and additional flight-tube. By using Pyrorytic Graphite (PG-004) single crystal as monochromator set at 2θm=70o, monochromatic beam of 1.923 AA was obtained. Direct measurement of neutron beam using 3 mm slit gives a linear corelation between detector channel and 2θs as y=72.51x+229.83. Residual stress measurement on U-shaped stainless steel of gave a residual stress of σx=-0.152 Gpa and σy=-0.140 Gpa. (author), 8 refs, 2 tabs, 6 figs
