SIMMER-II analysis of short-risetime, two-component, transient boiled-up pool simulation tests
Description
This report summarizes recent analyses of experimental data using the SIMMER-II Computer Code. The experimental data were collected in a series of tests that were designed to simulate the dynamic response of a boiled-up pool of fuel and steel to pressure disturbances. In general, the code produced realistic simulations of the tests analyzed. A model of the effect of bubble virtual mass on interphase momentum transfer was found to be necessary for correct calculation of pulse propagation speed (no such model presently exists in SIMMER-II), but the dynamics of the pool were found to be insensitive to this term. Although SIMMER-II has no model for liquid-slug break-up caused by Taylor instabilities, numerical diffusion of mass provided very similar behavior
