Design and preparation of a radioactive tracer for the investigation of solids mixing in gas-solid fluidized beds

Description

Some requirements for a tracer suitable for the study of solids mixing patterns in fluidized bed reactors are discussed. A labelling method is developed based on the adsorption from solutions by which it was possible to prepare 111In (or sup(113m)In) labelled catalyst with a specific activity strictly proportional to its mass. The procedure takes about 3 hours to accomplish one experiment. Activity recoveries between 91% and 101% (average 94%) were obtained for water and 0.04M HCl with all In-concentrations with exception of aqueous solutions of carrier free material where less indium was recovered.
