Production of polarized high-energy electrons in strong magnetic fields

  • 1. AN SSSR, Novosibirsk. Inst. Yadernoj Fiziki

Description

The effect of polarization of 250 GeV electrons passing through a megagauss magnetic field is considered. The polarization arises as a result of dependence of the magnetic bremsstrahlung probability on the spin projection on the field direction, leading to the space separation of the particles with opposite projections. The problem is reduced to the study of the corresponding kinetic equations, that have been solved both in the Fokker-Planck approximation and more accurately, so that authors have been able to find out the domain of the applicability of the method and to take into account radiative polarization of the beam as a whole and to make more precise the value of the polarization degree. This value is presented for realistic estimates of the involved parameters
