Superconducting magnet coil for K-500 superconducting cyclotron at VECC

  • 1. Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre, Bidhannagar, Kolkata (India)

Description

K-130 room temperature cyclotron VEC is operating at this centre for the past two decades. In order to extend the scope of nuclear research with heavy ion beam at VECC, it was decided in early 90s to construct a superconducting cyclotron for compact size and weight. Magnet coil is one of the critical component of the K-500 Superconducting Cyclotron. This coil is finally immersed in liquid helium in a specially built cryostat having liquid nitrogen shield and outer vacuum chamber to minimize the heat leak
