Clinical effect of CT-guided microwave ablation in the treatment of pulmonary metastases

Objective: To discuss the clinical effect of CT-guided microwave ablation (MWA) in the treatment of pulmonary metastases. Methods: The clinical data of 60 patients with 100 pulmonary metastatic lesions, who received CT-guided MWA at authors' hospital during the period from January 2014 to July 2017, were retrospectively analyzed. The safety and clinical curative effect of CT-guided MWA for pulmonary metastases were evaluated. Results: Of the 100 pulmonary metastatic lesions in 60 patients, reexamination at one month after CT-guided MWA showed that complete ablation of lesion was achieved in 98, the complete ablation rate was 98.0%. No MWA-related death occurred within one month after treatment. Twelve patients developed complications, including hemoptysis (n = 3), pleural effusion (n = 1) and pneumothorax (n = 9), all the complications were improved after symptomatic treatment. Conclusion: For the treatment of pulmonary metastases, CT-guided percutaneous puncture MWA is a safe and effective minimally-invasive method. (authors)
