Description

Solid tumours in thorax region may present with multiple metastases (targets) necessitating their simultaneous radio therapeutic treatment. In conventional method, multiple targets are being treated individually with a set of beams having their own isocenter which takes prolongation of treatment time (starting from pre-treatment quality assurance, patient positioning, setup corrections for every target to final treatment delivery). Another method is to have a common isocenter, around which the gantry rotates and delivers radiation to multiple targets; one at a time, that minimizes the treatment time. An attempt was made to validate the simultaneous treatment of multiple targets in thorax region planned with mono isocenter using three dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) simulating the treatment condition with an in-house made thorax water phantom
