The direct photograph of solar faculae and sunspots with a balloon-borne 10 cm telescope, (3)

Description

With the flight in September, 1977, of a balloon-borne 10 cm solar telescope, direct photographs of faculae and sunspots were successfully taken at wavelength near 5300 A. (1) In the measurement of brightness of 662 faculae in the places closer to the photosphere center (two regions at 76% and 87% of the radius), the valves were 9.2% and 16.2% respectively brighter in comparison of the surrounding photosphere. The faculae are at higher temperature than the photosphere, 500 k (facula diameter of 1 sec angle) to 1000 k (facula diameter of 0.2 sec angle). (2) At a place close to the umbra within the penumbra of sunspots, there is brightness equal to that of the photosphere. (3) As the result of comparing the polar-region faculae by balloon observation and the soft X-ray bright points by sky-lab observation in 1973, it was found that both were not shining simultaneously.
