Current status of scintimammography
Description
There has been a recent and increasing interest in the scintigraphic imaging of breast, or mammography (or scintimammography ?), since 99mTc-sestamibi has been used for that purpose. Reviewed here are the biological basis, the main results of the published studies, the methodological considerations and the expected evolution of this technique. Mammoscintigraphy could help in the early stage of the diagnosis of malignant breast tumors, but it could also potentially be the first step in the functional evaluation of the chemo-sensitivity of the tumor.
