Analysis of Ce3+ form factor in anomalous cerium compounds

  • 1. CEA Centre d'Etudes Nucleaires de Grenoble, 38 (France). Dept. de Recherche Fondamentale

Description

Polarized neutron diffraction allows to measure with precision magnetic form factor and to study magnetization densities. In the case of a Ce3+ ion this magnetization density is very anisotropic, and the form factor changes drastically with the physical parameters. It is a favourable case to determine with accuracy the ground state of the ion. The author shows how polarized neutron diffraction has improved the understanding of the anomalous compounds CeAl2, CeSb, CeTe. (Auth.)
