Known effects of low-level radiation exposure. Health implications of the TMI accident

This publication represents the proceedings of an April 1979 conference held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Its content is mainly technical with some rather involved evaluations of experimental, epidemiological, and statistical studies relating to the effects of low level radiation on human health. Attempts were made to correlate these studies with and apply them to the accident at the Three Mile Island nuclear power station. At the end of some chapters, there were some question and answer periods which appeared to be rather lively at times. It was in these sections that the most useful information for the general public and physicians with little background in radiobiology appeared. This book is organized into an introduction, six chapters devoted to specific topics (such as dosimetry, mutagenesis, carcinogenesis, teratogenesis), and a summary panel discussion.
