On the precision of the radiometric age methods (II): potassium-argon and uranium fission track methods

  • 1. Atomic and Nuclear Physics Department, Faculty of Physics, University of Bucharest, PO Box MG-11, R-76900 Bucharest (Romania)

Description

An optimization criterion based upon the minimization of relative errors of the sample age is proposed for K-Ar and 238 U fission track Radiometric Age Methods (RAM). In concordance with this criterion, for the both methods the intervals of sample ages, for which these techniques provide best theoretical precision, are calculated. Further implications concerning the applicability of K-Ar and 238 U fission track RAMs are discussed. (authors)
