Description

TomoTherapy is a recently-developed revolutionary new high-tech system to deliver conformal radiation therapy to cancer patients. It looks like a large CT scanner, and delivers helical slice intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). The first unit in Japan was installed at Hokuto Hospital, and began treating patients in late August 2005. We treated many patients not only for primary malignant neoplasm but also for bone metastases. TomoTherapy could deliver high quality radiation both as curative and as palliative therapy, and found its usefulness. (author)
