Charge transfer studies with state-selected multiply charged ions

Description

Various methods of preparing internal states of multiply charged ions are described, which have been applied to the study of electron capture reactions. In the collision system Ne2+/Xe new important reaction channels, which have been attributed to different processes in earlier investigations, are identified by the aid of near threshold translational energy spectroscopy. In the case of Ar2+/Ar collisions angular distributions of the projectile ions are analysed for single and double capture reactions, particularly using state-prepared highly excited metastable states of Ar2+. 22 refs.; 11 figs
