Equipment for sodium fire fighting

Description

The equipment for extinguishing sodium fires consists of at least one vat covered with a cover consisting of stationary bands and of movable bands pivoted along shafts and held down with springs to the stationary bands. The equipment is provided with an inert gas supply, preferably with nitrogen opening into the vat. The pipe connecting the vat with a tank is fitted in at least one lowest point in the tank. The equipment is also provided with a heating system, preferably electric heating the pipe and the internal space of the vat. The equipment is provided with at least one electric contact, insulated from the other conductive parts of the equipment and placed such that liquid sodium is part of the closed electric circuit which also consists of an alarm current supply and conductors connected to electrically conductive parts. Part of the closed electric circuit is also the remote controlled valve on the connecting piping and the valve which controls the inert gas supply. Access to the tank is either to the piping or to the siphon and is covered with a membrane of metal alloy with a low melting point. (B.S.)
