The paper is concerned with the existence problem for a conformal invariant fixed point of four-dimensional massless QED. The interplay between conformal and gauge invariance is discussed, along with a conformal quantum electrodynamics model involving a logarithmic scalar field. The construction of a conformal invariant renormalisation-group fixed point is reviewed. The article is a contribution to the book commemorating the sixtieth birthday of E.S. Fradkin. (U.K.)
