Effect of artificial roughness and helical wrapping at elastic rods on their vibration performance in longitudinal fluid flow

Description
Experimental investigation results of exciting forces and vibration characteristics of single smooth rods with artificial roughness in axial water flow are presented. Experimental dependences of exciting forces affecting single rod, pressure pulsations in turbulent flow, vibration frequency and 0-20 flow rate range are given. It is shown, that for rods with artificial roughness vibration is approximately one order higher, than smooth rods vibration amplitude. At the same time, for rough rods investigated variants with 5-10 m/s occurs dynamic instability of flutter type
