Optical observations of ultraviolet objects

Description

Results are given of a programme of spectral classification of 103 stars originally selected as 'ultraviolet objects' from TD-1 satellite photometry with the S2/68 experiment. Most of the objects appear to be spectroscopically normal stars; the method of selection yielded a sample of relatively unreddened B stars at distances up to approximately 2 kpc. This result is compared with recent studies of the spatial distribution of interstellar extinction in the same regions of the sky. (author)
