Description
Synchrotron radiation gives a very large wavelength spectra from infrared to X-rays. The continuous spectra in the far ultraviolet and X rays and also the brightness of the source enlarge the studies of structural and electronic properties of matter. In a brief review of main applications, the paper presents more particularly absorption, diffusion and diffraction phenomena. Examples taken in inorganic chemistry and condensed matter physics show the power of X-ray aborption spectroscopy and electron spectroscopy methods (angular analysis of photoelectrons and mass spectroscopy) for the study of surfaces and solids. 51 refs
Abstract (French)
Le rayonnement synchrotron, fournit un tres large spectre de longueurs d'onde depuis l'infrarouge jusqu'aux rayons X. La continuite spectrale dans le domaine de l'ultraviolet lointain et des rayons X ainsi que la brillance de la source ont donne une nouvelle dimension aux etudes des proprietes electroniques et structurales de la matiere. Dans un survol des principales applications, cet article presente plus particulierement celles qui ont trait aux phenomenes d'absorption puis aux phenomenes de diffusion ou de diffraction. On montre par des exemples empruntes a la chimie inorganique et a la physique de la matiere condensee, la puissance des methodes de spectroscopie d'absorption X et de spectroscopie electronique (analyse angulaire des photoelectrons et spectrometrie de masse) pour l'etude des surfaces et des solidesAdditional details
